The day has finally arrived! The day that we have all been waiting for. The Toronto Islands are reopening to the public tomorrow morning, after a nearly three month closure.
The Toronto Islands typically welcomes up to 1.46 million visitors annually. The islands are a great escape from the city for both locals and tourists alike. Definitely one of my favourite places to go. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the perfect spot to sit back, relax and enjoy the sunshine. There are also many fun activities to do on the islands. Rent bikes or boats, go check out Centreville, the children’s amusement park, play a round of frisbee golf, or get lost in the hedge maze. There are a variety of amazing restaurants on the island too. Or you could bring your own food and take advantage of the numerous public bbq grills and picnic benches. Then go cool off at one of the beaches. Forgot your bathing suit…? Not a problem, Hanlan’s Point clothing optional beach is the spot for you.
No summer is complete without a trip to the Toronto Islands! So come on down. Starting tomorrow we will be running our island shuttle service to Centre Island daily. It is your fastest way to enjoy the Toronto Islands.
Check out this video of the flooded islands. I bet it is going to be looking pretty different come Monday!
*Due to the extensive flooding during the spring/early summer of 2017, we will be unable to offer the ‘island stop’ feature of our tour for the remainder of 2017. Unfortunately, even as the water level drops and the islands will be reopened for August, the dock we use for our islands stop – the ‘Grandstands’ – have been completely damaged from the high waters, and are currently unsafe to use. We expect, however, to be back to normal and stopping on the islands once again starting in the 2018 season.
However, if you want a trip to the islands our Water Taxi service is a great way to get you there quickly. This service will be available daily from July 31 to Monday September 5th.
